Feature
Red or amaranthine crystal, easily soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, aether and propanone. Its specific gravity is 1.924. Cobalt chloride is usually supplied as the cobalt chloride hexahydrate CoCl2·6H2O, which is one of the most commonly used cobalt compounds in the laboratory. Cobalt chloride hexahydrate is deep purple in color, whereas the cobalt chloride anhydrous form is sky blue.
Applications
Drying agent for painting, absorbent for ammonia, indicator of silica gel dryer and coloring agent for electroplating and ceramics, medicine production.
Storage
Stored in cool and dry warehouse; Keep away from flame and heat.
